Designing outposts that might not feel temperatures above 0° F all year and may face sustained temperatures of -60° F is a challenge we enjoy taking on. We have worked on both short and long term living solutions for this extreme environment.
As native Houstonians, designing temporary housing structures for hurricane and tornado relief comes second nature. We pride ourselves in applying our skills to help our fellow neighbors and beyond in their times of needs.
Before "Tiny Homes" was popular, members of our team where already designing and applying "petite architecture" concepts. We offer a variety of adaptable & modular stock floor plans to choose from & are always willing to customize one to your needs.
Net-Zero goes beyond carbon footprint offset, it is a natural by-product of designing homes to be self-sustaining and "off-grid". As much of what we design already fits this criteria, we extend these active and passive systems to normal dwellings as well.
Affordable housing has steadily become a growing issue in the urban areas. We have contributed to over two dozen designs (and growing fast!) that have been constructed in the Houston area. These have included townhomes, duplexes, custom homes and remodels.
We live in a scary, changing, uncertain but also incredibly exciting times. At this moment, humanity is building habitable vehicles that will go to Mars, funding initiatives to establish a permanent outpost on the Moon, designing whole cities using AI minds. Yet also at this moment millions of people are being displaced due to rising sea levels, record breaking hurricanes, droughts and wildfires. In short, our world is changing, and as such so should we.
In embarking on this great change, it is easy to let fear and or denial cripple opportunity. We at STARch Studios take comfort in knowing that changing where and how we live, design, build, and maintain our constructs is a story as old as humanity itself. We choose to believe that the future of a better Built Environment rests on optimism and the strength to ride the waves (sometimes quite literally). This philosophy is key as humanity begins to spread out into the stars. As Dr. Mann, played by Matt Damon in the film Interstellar, said "Our survival instinct is our single greatest source of inspiration."
